Another one hour, we have to listen to a recorded lecture which is about Islam & Sustainable Development.

In this lesson, Sustainable development is not a new concept to Muslims. The Qur'an and the Hadith provide the framework for the spiritual and physical welfare of humanity. There are over 500 verses in the Qur'an giving Muslims guidance on matters relating to the environment and how to deal with it, and there are numerous examples from the prophet Mohammed's life (PBUH) and his sayings, which provide a model for justice and equity.

In Islam, we have 3 fundamental of Islam development which is :

1. Relationship between Allah

2. Relationship between human

3. Relationship between environment

The rights to benefit from nature are linked to accountability and maintenance or conservation of the resource. The fundamental legal principle established by the Prophet Muhammad is that “The benefit of a thing is in return for the liability attached to it.”

Sustainable Development in Islam based on :

  • ECONOMIC
  • ENVIRONMENTAL
  • SOCIAL

In conclusion, a sustainable environment in Islam has been mentioned in the Quran and hadith about waste generation, water conservation and water pollution. In addition, it is related to social sustainability in Islam, which is belief in the pillars of Islam and the pillars of Faith and as the caliph of God on this earth. Lastly, a sustainable economy in Islam which is by giving to people who are more in need such as giving alms and giving zakat.
